Unseen Eyes, Unheard Voices: Emerging Data Concerns Arising the Covid-19 Pandemic
Phillip Ayazika from Pollicy is guest on this years #FIFAfrica21 session hosted by Kenya ICT Action Network and CIPESA Uganda - Tune in!
The objective of the session will be to raise awareness of the emerging data concerns that arose with the occurrence of the COVID-19 pandemic, highlighting lessons from Kenya and Uganda. KICTANet will also aim to discuss the steps that can be taken by various entities handling COVID-19 related data to push for the establishment of effective data governance frameworks. In the past year, KICTANet has released various research outputs, including the Unseen Eyes, Unheard Stories: Surveillance, data protection, and freedom of expression in Kenya and Uganda during COVID-19 and video Documentaries on Kenya and Uganda, developed in collaboration with Article 19 Eastern Africa and Pollicy. KICTANet has also developed a Data Governance Report on the use of COVID-19 applications, which is soon to be published. The findings and recommendations from these studies could form a basis for action in other countries facing similar challenges with regards to their handling of COVID-19 data.
