Main Goal of the Project
The objective of the project was to track the observance of rights during the COVID-19 pandemic response through focusing on monitoring, documenting, and analyzing incidents of violations. The goal was to provide an info-pact of human rights violations tracker related to COVID-19 to raise awareness on these violations, promote accountability, and evidence-based advocacy. SRI worked hand in hand with individual lawyers, journalists, and HRDs dealing directly with victims and survivors of violations within their communities.
Project Design
The COVID-19 Human Rights Violations Tracker
Strategic Response International (SRI) has built an online-based tracker map called “The COVID-19 Human Rights Violations Tracker” that documents rights violations against Human Rights Defenders during the implementation of the lockdown by government. This was done by compiling these violations in an excel sheet and a live tracker map. This exercise targeted COVID-19 linked human rights violations that had already occurred and the ones that happened during the project cycle until the end of November 2020.
Publication of findings
The incidents of COVID-19 linked human rights violations have been documented in monthly briefs for August, September, and October 2020 on patterns and trends of violations, and a report on COVID-19 linked human rights violations in Uganda that can be found below.

With the creation of a live tracker map of COVID-19 linked rights violations, we believe that this is essential for all stakeholders ranging from the civil society and state actors in the sharing of gross human rights violations during the period.
Through advocating for human rights protection, the impact of the project will be felt in demanding necessary reforms by the government. Our reports and statistics of the violation of the rights during the pandemic have been shared with our partners, and other stakeholders and the government to demand justice for all the victims.
